In Hebrew, the phrase "מה פתאום/mah peet-ome" is used to mean both "what happened?" or "no way". A good time to use it: tonight when, after returning from my last Israeli Sign Language class (I graduated from the Beginner's course!), I sat down at my computer and all the lights promptly went out. Apparently, some kind of mega-fuse blew and all the dorms were without power.
Luckily, as with no electricity my space heater doesn't work and the buildings here aren't heated, we've had it back on for about half an hour. I'm hoping it stays on; otherwise, my good friend Emily was gracious enough to grant an emergency request for me to show up at her door with pajamas and my toothbrush at late hours of the night.
I guess I shouldn't complain too much, though: my friend Hayley is in Guatemala for an internship. She's been there I think about a week and already there have been four, multi-hour blackouts. With my fear of the dark, you can only imagine. Speaking of, remind me to buy a flashlight and some candles at the shook tomorrow...

You have a space heater. I have a portable heater that runs on fuel. You can imagine how unsettling it is to have that heater next to me in bed.
